Which computer course to do after PUC

Published 20 August 2026

Every year students walk into our centre soon after their PUC results with the same question: which course will get me a job? There is no single answer, but there is a sensible way to decide.

Start from the work, not the software

Ask yourself which of these you would happily do eight hours a day:

  • Working with numbers and records → Accounting track. Start with DICFA or the shorter Tally with GST course. Kundapura has no shortage of shops, hotels, hospitals and CA offices that need a reliable accounts person.
  • Working with visuals → Design track. DTP if you want to enter a press or studio quickly, Graphic Design if you want to build a portfolio and freelance.
  • Working with your hands and equipment → Hardware & Networking. This is the course whose students most often end up running their own service business.
  • Working with logic and problem-solving → Programming track. ADCA or O Level Programmer for a full year, or a short Python / C / Java module alongside your degree.
  • Working with people and marketing → Digital Marketing. Local businesses need this badly and rarely find trained people.

Short course or long diploma?

If you need to start earning quickly, take a three-month course, get a job, and add another course later while working. If you are continuing with a degree anyway, a one-year diploma such as ADCA taken alongside gives you far more range when placements come around.

Do not choose on fees alone

The cheapest course is the one you never use. Choose the course whose daily work you can imagine doing, then check that it is taught practically - ask how much lab time you actually get before you pay.
